Description
In http://rasdaman.org/wiki/RasdamanQuickInstall I see:
3a. Configure alternatives for awk to gawk (Ubuntu 12.04)
sudo update-alternatives —set awk /usr/bin/gawk
Q: Is this still required? It is not on http://rasdaman.org/wiki/InstallFromSource

do we have any proof (eg, vanilla installation, Jenkins-driven VMS, …)? I'd love to remove it.

I've never needed to do it, it's a recommendation from Michael Owonibi if I remember correctly.
@Alex you are using Ubuntu, was it necessary to run this command?
sudo update-alternatives --set awk /usr/bin/gawk

I believe once you install gawk it automatically becomes the default awk.

I've never used it, I do not believe it's necessarry on Debian based systems.

thx, so I take this as evidence that it's not needed and remove it from the guide.

I think it's not required anymore.
