It's hard to keep them in sync with the English ones, and it complicates the code.
This concerns the language files source:bin/errtxts_de, source:bin/errtxts_en, source:bin/errtxts_fr, and any code in source:raslib/error.cc and source:raslib/error.hh that is dedicated to handling the translated messages.

Fully agreed, it's no fun to maintain currently. Maybe we instead offer an opportunity to plug in language translations, with a fallback to English whenever nothing is found.
INSPIRE requires multilinguality, so we should retain a way to have error messages in any language.
