Standards Commitment

As a pioneer in Array Analytics and the originator of a whole new technology field, Array Databases, rasdaman substantially contributes to standards in the field.

Implementing Standards

WCS

rasdaman implements OGC WCS Core and all extensions, including WCPS. It is official OGC WCS Reference Implementation.

WMS

rasdaman implements the Web Map Service Implementation Standard (WMS) in its current version 1.3 (OGC 06-042) with certified compliance.

INSPIRE WCS

Spatio-temporal coverages appear in many, if not most themes of EU INSPIRE Annexes II and III. In 2016, INSPIRE has adopted OGC WCS as Coverage Download Service, rasdaman has been decided to become an official INSPIRE WCS Reference Implementation (cf. https://inspire-reference.jrc.ec.europa.eu/vocabularies/tags/inspire-wcs-reference-implementation and Figure 1).

Shaping Standards

The rasdaman team, under the lead of Peter Baumann, is leading datacube standardization since many years. The engagement of Large-Scale Scientific Information Systems Research Group and rasdaman GmbH is manifold:

  • ISO Array SQL, initiated and crafted by the rasdaman team
  • Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC):
    • chairing the Coverages Domain Working Group (Coverages.DWG), WCS Standards Working Group (WCS.WG), Big Data Domain Working Group (BigData?.DWG)
    • driving standardization of OGC CIS, WCS; and WCPS - see the OGC coverages wiki maintained by him
  • ISO 19123-1 and 19123-2 define the ISO coverage standards; Peter Baumann leads as as editor/ project leader, resp., and ensures harmonization with OGC
