Description (last modified by Dimitar Misev)

We already have a mechanism for building rasdaman RPMs (see wiki:RPM), and it would be good to have such support for Debian-based distributions too. This is a good starting point for packaging application for Debian: http://wiki.debian.org/Packaging

The task is to develop scripts/configuration files, which on a freshly installed Debian/Ubuntu OS will build a debian package of rasdaman for that OS. This should be as automated as possible:

  • different OS versions/architectures should be automatically recognized, e.g. Debian 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, etc, Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04, etc, 32/64 bit
  • rasdaman will be automatically pulled from a specified GIT repo
  • all dependencies for building rasdaman and then the debian package will be installed automatically. For rasdaman, basically all steps outlined here (Debian 6.0) should be done automatically by a script. I attached a script which does something like this for building rasdaman on the osgeo-live DVD, for Ubuntu 11.04.

It would be best to develop and test this in a latest Debian or Ubuntu virtual machine. Documentation should go to wiki:DEB
