rasmgr.auth should not be saved in HOME

Reported by: atoader Owned by: atoader

Complexity: Medium

At the moment, rasmgr.auth is saved in the HOME directory of the user. The file should be stored in rasdaman's installation folder.

What's the purpose of this file actually? I can't find any info in the manuals or the wiki.

This file stores the list of user that are allowed to access the database. The list contains the users' passwords and access rights. I think that there should be only one file of this type per database installation configured by the database administrator. I would place it next to rasmgr.conf if you don't think otherwise.

Ok so the admin is supposed to update this file, not regular users? The location sounds good then.

see Installation Guide.
But we cannot simply change the location of some system file.

We talked about this 6 months ago and we decided that the file should not be there and that this should be changed. In the old rasmgr the rasmgr.auth file was saved in $RMANHOME/etc, I did the same for the new rasmgr but the patch got rejected.

There are currently 5-6 people using the new protocol and the new rasmgr, we should fix the problem now before it affects more people.

Bang, what are your arguments against this fix?

@Alex Toader: It is very strange when I see this ticket first time by chance and see Alex Toader's question about my argument against his fix (I also have no idea about this file, how can I disagree with you?). Or if you want me to discuss, please add cc first.
